My mask was inspired by a piece that Collin Bogle made of an owl, called watching and waiting. Collin Bogle is an artist in Washington, who is well known for his striking and realistic floral and wildlife art. He is inspired by light, and will often not finish a piece if it's lighting isn't inspiring to him. I was drawn to his art because I am drawn to nature, and want to learn how to make realistic artwork, like he does.

While painting the mask, I had to invent several different techniques to replicate some of the detail of Collin Bogle's art, such as using a thread bare paintbrush to make the tiny, speckled feathers. I also did my best to recreate the lighting of the piece, by painting some parts with slightly lighter paint. I hope that I will continue to improve on the quality of my art, and some day be able to paint as realistically as Collin Bogle does.
