Pre-Instruction Vessel
For my first project, we were told to make vessels. This reminded me of a game I used to play with figurines. The frogs would carry water on their backs, like vessels. Real life tree frogs do this with their offspring, they carry every tadpole to a different plant, where the frog will lay an unfertilized egg, then leave their tadpole to grow up. I made a clay frog in third grade, too, and wanted to improve on my frog making skills. (I included a picture of this to the right.) And so I decided, at last, to make a frog vessel for paper clips and other small objects.
When it was time to glaze the piece, I went with black as the main color, mimicking some poisonous frogs of the rainforest, but when poisonous frogs normally have bright colors, I chose a more calm green color to run down the back. The contrast of the black and green gives it a more modern look. Also, to add some interest, I added bright blue drips of glaze down the sides, which mixed with the black and became deep and interesting. |
