I chose to base my final project off of bees and CCD (colony collapse disorder). CCD is when all of the worker bees leave their hive, and is caused by many factors. These include pesticide poisoning, less food because of the loss of native species and natural habitat, and stress. Because of these factors, bee population is declining. Without bees, society wouldn't exist, because the bees are pollinators, and without them, many plants would go extinct, and the animals would follow.

A draft drawing and plan of the project

For the project, I chose to make a bee out of newspaper. The newspaper represents society, and by making the bee out of it, the bee is intertwined closely with society. Without the bees, society would crumble. To represent that, I cut up the news into strips, to show the decay that would happen if bees faded out.
I focused on value in this project. I chose only black and white newspaper to use in the piece. The stripes of the bee are different shades, from black to white, showing that the bees will fade out if we don't do anything to stop it. |
I focused the emphasis of the project on the bee, because the project was about bees. I tried my hardest to make the bee and the newspaper, or society, have unity, by making them from the same materials.
I chose to put a jar around them to represent bias, and also the world. The jar represents bias, because it is so hard to escape when you are in, or surrounded by it. Bias keeps people from seeing that the bees are dying, or from acting to stop it. The jar can also represent the small world that we share with the bees is, and how everything in it must live in unity. |
