Pop-Portrait
For this piece, I chose to add clay to the facial features that are more 3-D normally, such as the nose, cheek bones, forehead, eyebrows, and hair. I chose to subtract some clay to make stripes, which get wider apart near the top of the slab. Other subtractive features include the hair on one side of my head, and my shirt. I did this to make them seem farther away. On the front arm, though, I made a slope, so it would get closer to the viewer. While painting, I was inspired by the grey color of the black paint wash that we used to fill the lines, and how it made the figure look like a statue. I went off of this, and painted the skin grey. I added to the statue look by making the clothes faded colors, and brushed them with darker paint to imitate the texture of a statue.
